Hi Everybody!
Know that grades are not being entered at this time. The work assigned is "Enrichment" and not mandatory, but you want to do it be sure you are not behind when school starts next year!!!

Here are the letters I've sent through Teacherease this week:
3/30/20
Good morning!!
I hope that you all are healthy and well!  Please feel free to email me at any time! I'd love to hear from you.  I hope to reach you today by phone and will start at 10 o'clock going down the list of my students today. If I don't reach you today, I'll try again tomorrow.

I've assigned some more iready lessons. This time I assigned one to be completed each day. If they are too easy or difficult for you, please move over to "mypath" and do one or two of those lessons instead. I've tried to challenge each student to be continuing grade level work so try your best to do that.

You can always feel free to move over to Newsela to read articles and do the quizzes there as well.

Here's another resource for fun.  This week, work on a narrative essay, remembering the things we learned in the ELA class about when to start a new paragraph with the dialogue and etc. You should have dialogue in your stories. Aim for two pages of written or typed work. Feel free to write me with any questions.

Here is the link to some fun ideas, but feel free to just write your own story. https://www.thoughtco.com/writing-prompts-seventh-grade-4165667o

This is all "enrichment" work to help keep you moving forward and prepare you for next year. I see on Iready the students who are working diligently. Good job! Many of you are doing lessons every day!!! Some of you may not have access to it. I hope that you are getting the packets handed out at the lunch locations!  If you are not able to get that, read a book! Read the news! Watch the lessons SCS's has posted on their website.  Challenge yourselves to read something for 30 minutes to an hour every day at the very least.  Reading will keep you moving forward.

Stay well! Stay away from people outside your homes! Don't hang out with friends at this time. Enjoy the solitude. Wash your hands!! Tell your siblings to wash their hands if you home caring for them. Stay six feet away from people who may be sick or anybody outside of your home. Stay home!!!!

Love yall,
Lorraine Cotten

Monday 3/23Hello everyone!  I hope that you are all healthy and happy!  I also hope that you have had a great break and gotten some rest!
Things are different without school and a regular schedule. I hope to try to help you continue learning in ELA and am here for you any time through email, if you need me. I'll be checking frequently.
For those of you who have internet access and/or computers, I have sent Iready assignments for this week. You are expected to do one each day. After you finish that assignment, you can move on to a Newsela article.  I assigned some specific ones and you can also choose ones that you are interested in. Make sure that they have a quiz along with the article.
For those of you who do not have internet access or a computer, there are packets that SCS's is providing on Monday and Tuesday of this week to pick up when you get meals (which sound great by the way).  Be sure and complete those packets. Dr Danley will be sending us more info today about that.
I'm attaching the locations for pickup of free lunches and the packets.
Stay healthy!  Stay away from people. I'm at home with my two teens and husband and dog right now and we are pretty bored, but not leaving the house and my kids are not allowed to visit with friends in person because they will bring all of those germs home to us.  Listen to your folks!

Love,
Mrs. Cotten

Thursday 3/26
HI!  I hope that your week is going well! It's strange not being at school, isn't it?  I miss all of you and hope that you're all healthy and enjoying some time off from sitting inside a building!  I think of each one of you every day and hope that you're happy and staying safe in your homes with your families.
I see that quite a few of you have been able to log into Iready and are doing some great work!  If you find yourselves frustrated with the Iready teacher assigned lessons, switch over to "My Path" and come back to them later.
I also want you to know that we received more info on how the grading will work.  After we return (hopefully), we will go back to regularly entering grades for everyone.  Until then, the work is
"Enrichment and or optional learning opportunities, not mandatory." That's my textual evidence from the letter they sent us. :-)  You do need to keep doing these lessons and the packets they have handed out, if you have those, because you don't want to be behind next year.  I am assigning lessons dealing with standards we have not assessed well on as a group or ones that each student has shown they need to work on individually.  It will put the students in a good position for their classes next year.
If you'd like to send photos of yourself at home during this time, email me at cottenlm@scsk12.org and I'll put them on my website. :-)
Read a Book!!! I've started one that I love so far. I'm reading it in-between homeschooling my kids and cleaning the house and letting our dogs in and out! Fun!
elacotten.com is my website.
Love yall!
